History of the museum

The Faïencerie de Gien Museum opened its doors in 1985, with the aim of preserving and showcasing the historical pieces kept by the company since its creation in 1821. Initially designed on a single level, it offered visitors an immersion in the artistic heritage of the Faïencerie.

Nearly 35 years later, on the occasion of the Faïencerie's bicentenary, the museum underwent a complete renovation. Thanks to financial support from the Centre-Val de Loire Region, the Loiret department, the Communauté de communes giennoise and the city of Gien, new exhibition spaces were created.

Today, the permanent collections are displayed on two levels. Thanks to a renewed museography, the museum offers a comprehensive and in-depth reading of the company's history, inviting the visitor to immerse themselves in the heart of an exceptional industrial heritage.
