Since 1821, the Faïencerie de Gien has perpetuated the excellence of French earthenware, combining artisanal know-how, creativity and living heritage.
“Les Vases à Oranger” collection is the result of a collaboration between the Palace of Versailles and the Faïencerie de Gien. The theme of this design is, more specifically, the Palace’s gardens, the absolute masterpiece of the “King of Gardeners” and the King’s gardener: André Le Nôtre.
Le Nôtre pioneered a new style, emerged in the 17th century: the “French formal garden,” a true form of plant architecture. Among its hallmarks, the trellis is ever-present, shaping and defining the groves – those little “green oases” that punctuate a stroll through the Palace’s gardens.
At the heart of the gardens, Faïencerie de Gien has chosen to highlight bronze orange tree vases. There are six of them; each is unique and constitutes a true treasure of the decorative arts. Drawing on historical engravings depicting this exceptional collection, we have reinterpreted these vases to make them the centerpiece of the collection.
Each piece features a border that reflects these themes: plant architecture and the art of trellising. Particular care was taken in the treatment of the motifs to highlight the “engraving effect” of the historical document from which the collection draws its inspiration.
The color palette—a monochromatic scheme of greens and khaki—bridges the tender freshness of gardens with the bronze patina of the vases, all punctuated by the vibrant pop of orange, giving the collection an effect that is both classic and light.
Blending historical heritage with everyday elegance, “Les Vases à Oranger” collection offers a refined, fresh, and timeless vision of the French art of living.
These pieces can be paired with the Pont aux Choux Emerald green or Coral cups, as well as with the Ocean Blue, Fern, or Coral Filets.
