Arnaud d'Aunay

Les Indes françaises

To enliven his dreams and passion, the painter Arnaud d’Aunay quit the world of finance in 1994, since which time he has crisscrossed the entire world, carrying with him his palette of colours and notebook. From Bamako to Timbuktu, Las Vegas to Santa Fé, Saigon to Angkor… he loves remote and exotic routes, whilst keeping French as his inexhaustible source of inspiration. His works have been exhibited in several art galleries of worldwide renown, both in France and abroad.

Arnaud d’Aunay is also the painter, illustrator and author of several literary works, including "Les Indes françaises", published by Gallimard which has served as inspiration for the décor « Route des Indes ».

An untiring travelling painter, Arnaud d'Aunay has just completed two personal exhibitions on the themes "Vauban, maritime genius" and « Voyages » In 2010 he is working on a book on the polar expedition “La Liloise”, which took place in 1883.

Route des IndesThrough his book « Les Indes Françaises », together with Gien, Arnaud d’Aunay takes us on a trip to discover India and shows us the passionate view of the artist on this fascinating country as if portrayed on a postcard, or expressed through a souvenir gift… You are invited to embark on an extraordinary voyage, through different pieces, each illustrating the scenes of everyday life, representing India in all its richness and diversity, all its shimmering colours and costumes: the blues of the seas and fishing, the fuchsia pinks of the markets, spices and savours, the yellows of the buildings and passenger vehicles and the greens of the vegetation.
In the manner of a book of sketches, the notes of colour and symbols appear on the edgings of the pieces. The artist plays on the depth and contrast of the strokes of the drawings, water colours and scales, leading us right to the centre of the scenes portrayed.
The rickshaw tricycles criss-cross the visiting card tray and plates… and we advance in our journey. The rickshaw is shown all the pieces and is the guide for the moving scenes we discover. Route des Indes is also an unexpected encounter with these Indian women, draped in saris, always a marvellous spectacle.
